Santa Cruz Mountain Mushroom Festival

UC Davis Biodesign students worked hard to prepare their work for display at the Mykos booth at the Santa Cruz Mountain Mushroom Festival. Two of the digital designers created these three posters to summarize the mission and goals of Mykos and explain team research projects.

Visitors got to hold and tap on our Mykobricks to see how strong and lightweight they are. They asked students about growing mycelium leather (featured in a lamp made by the Design team) and dyeing it with mushrooms (samples by the Color team). We explained our sealant experiments and our attempts to mix mycelium with adobe. We also displayed a mycelium circuit board and fashion accessory, made by former Design MFA student Eldy Lazaro.

We met many industry insiders who mentored us in new processes to try to grow our materials more successfully. We found supporters there who are excited about the Mykos journey and the students who are making it happen.
